Dear Fellow Twenty-Somethings,
I don’t know about you, but I remember days in early college years… talking to adults about how great it is. How great it is to "know" exactly the degree you will graduate with in four years. How awesome your job straight of college is going to be. How beautiful you are going to build the perfect farmhouse. The boy you swear you will be engaged to by 20 and marry by 22. There you are, talking about everything you have planned for your future and how you are so positive that is how everything will fall into place. And there are the adults just standing there, with smiles on their faces as if they knew exactly how it felt to be right there in your shoes. And what do they say in response? Something along the lines of, “enjoy your college days because before you know it, they will be gone.”
Well, 4 years have passed and here I am. I am 22 years old and am proud of myself that I do not yet have all those things that I said I would in my early college years. Crazy right? But I am proud of myself that I wake up every day with the intent to better who I am in all aspects of my life. I am proud of myself that I do not have it all figured out. YES, I would love to have a dreamy farmhouse. But that isn’t God’s plan. And YES, I would love to be engaged and getting married and have the perfect wedding. But that isn’t God’s timing. I have learned that life isn’t meant to be planned according to your way. And that putting pressure on your plans can interfere with the Lord’s plans.
So, for my friends who are just starting college or are in college my advice to you is to trust in God’s plan and to enjoy your four years in college, because they do go by fast and they will be gone before you know it. So, don’t waste your time planning and hoping for the future. Enjoy college. Soak in the moment. Listen, wait, and have patience for God’s timing.
And for my fellow twenty-something year olds, it is okay to not have it all figured out, because c'mon, how many of us really do?! It is God's will that we sit back and trust in His plan for our life. So next time you are discouraged because you didn’t get the job you wanted, or the house you wanted is out of your price range, or your life is a little bit off the path you wanted for it to be, say to yourself, “It is ok that I don’t have it all figured out. Because I trust in MY God that he will come through. That He will use me in all ways that He has planned for my life. And that each set back or stepping stone is according to His plan. That I am independent on God for all of my needs, wants, and plans in life.”
So, It is okay to not have it all figured out.
& always remember... "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." - James 1:17
